Cha-cha-cha-changes are happening in the Harrison house again! We spent the last few weeks moving bedrooms around. Spoiler alert: Our master is now downstairs, along with the nursery, and all the “big kids” are movin’ on up (to the Eastside upstairs). I’ll do an updated whole house post sometime soon-ish, but today I’m going to focus on the nursery changes.
See our house as it was when we moved in here, and the most recent whole-house update here.
I’m not going to lie. It pained me to move Amelia out of her nursery. It was her first bedroom, and the amount of planning and love I put into this room before she was born will not be forgotten. But we knew moving the older kids upstairs made sense (and eventually will give them each their own rooms), and we knew we needed our babies nearby if we moved downstairs. So here we are, refinishing another nursery.
FYI, Amelia will still be alone in this nursery for a while. Adeline, at nearly five months old, is still happily sleeping in our room, and likely will continue to do so for a while. That said, this will EVENTUALLY become a nursery for two.
Before
We relocated the nursery to Estrella’s old room. If you aren’t intimately familiar with our family, Estrella is my almost-nineteen-year-old stepdaughter, who recently moved out on her own. Her room before was pretty bare. No, that’s a lie. Her room before was a disaster and literally filled to the brim with her makeup, clothes, and art supplies. However she took it all with her leaving a blank slate. Okay, that’s a lie too, there were murals she painted all over the walls (not pictured, these are older pictures).
Anyway, the room had old carpet still, needed fresh paint, and the closet doors (and closet system) was terrible. So we finally pulled up the carpet, replaced it with the same flooring we’ve laid throughout the rest of the house, painted (like five coats to cover the mini-murals), and created a smaller version of the closet system we had in the huge closet upstairs. We also hung cordless, light-blocking blinds (because babies), and trashed the old baseboards (with the goal of replacing all baseboards in our house eventually). Ready?
After
It’s not 100% done. Like I said, it needs baseboards. I want to replace the ceiling fan/light (probably for another ceiling fan/light) and find a rug or rugs to soften it up a bit. I need to finish organizing the closet, and corral some cords here and there. All of the trim (and the door) will need paint. And eventually, there will be two cribs in here (or a crib and a toddler bed, who know?), so of course, the layout will likely change some. But for now, I love how much brighter it is, and Amelia LOVES having her bedroom downstairs where she can freely play in it (instead of needing help/permission to go upstairs).
Now I just need to figure out how I’m ever going to get these two cuties to sleep in the same room at some point in the future – any tips?
